I will tell you in simple terms. There is a record timer available for each center for every particular distance in that track. Note that timing and weight and penetrometer reading and false rail width and take that horse speed rating as 100 for that distance
Now you are going to compare that horse always with the present runner with these variants. If a horse today reached the same timing in the same distance and in the same track with the same penetrometer with 6kgs more in the last run then the record timer, then this horse is more superior than that of a record timer by 12 points. this is true if you are comparing a 1200 m record timer with present runner’s timing of 1200 m , otherwise you are going to get everything wrong. So it will have 112 speed rating. Say if a horse runs today and matches the record holders timing in its last run carrying 3kgs less. then this horse is rated 94. Here I am assuming same penetrometer reading and same false rails.
So, for calculating the speed rating of the horse, we always compare with a record timer with its weight and underfoot condition, class, false rail width to this runner’s timing, carried weight and underfoot condition along with points related to its class
For every distance, that is 1000m, 1100m, 1200m, 1400m, 1600m, 1800m, 2000m and 2400m we take the course record timer’s timing with weight and penetrometer and compare the horse which has finished with a certain timing and weight in the last few runs to arrive at a genuine speed rating.
For this purpose we consider 2 lengths=1kg for 1000m, 1100m and 1200m. 1 1/2 lengths=1kg for 1400m, 1 length=1kg for 1600m, 3/4 kg=1 length in 1800m and 1/2kg =1 length in 2000m to 2400m.
The higher the speed rating the better the horse, for example-A horse with a 100 speed rating carrying 59kg today is no better when meeting a horse of 94 speed rating with 55 kgs. because each kg is 2 points for 1000m, 1100m and 1200m and the horse carrying 55 kegs is better by 2 points or 2 lengths that of horse carrying 59kgs
One more example- In a distance of 1200m if a horse carrying 59kgs is rated is rated with 100speed rating and another horse with 55 kgs with also rated with 100 speed rating naturally, a with with 55 kgs will win. Because it is better than 8 speed rating points than that of a 59kgs carrying horse in this case.
For people with busy schedule we calculate and give the speed rating figures in our IRTIPS Android Mobile App in the speed rating page.
In our mobile IRTIPS android app, we are using the above formula for calculating the speed rating. Please note that we take the variants of class, timings, weight, penetrometer reading, wind speed and false rail with for obtaining the speed figure. This facility is available only for Basic Plus and Premium Users of the app
